Build Updates
Welcome to MillerVantures: Building an Astro Around Smiles Per Gallon

A quick introduction from Darren and Tanya — who we are, why we bought a 2005 Chevy Astro, and what this site is going to be.
If you found this page, chances are you either love old Chevy Astros, hate them, or you're deep in a rabbit hole about lifting a 2WD van and Google spat us out.
Any of those work. Welcome.
Who we are
We're Darren and Tanya Miller — born and raised in BC, living in Chilliwack, in the Fraser Valley. Between the two of us we've spent most of our lives in the mountains, on gravel roads, and beside rivers. Overlanding isn't a lifestyle we picked up. It's the version of camping we grew up with.
What this site is
MillerVantures is our living build journal — a chronological record of turning a stock 2005 Chevy Astro cargo van into a lifted overland camper we can actually trust on BC's Forest Service Roads.
- The Build Journal — every chapter, in order, from purchase to now.
- Guides & Gear — evergreen how-to's on diagnostics, cooling, recovery, and trip planning.
- Service History — every repair and dollar spent on the van, in public.
- The Manifesto — why we build the way we do.
Why the Astro
Everyone we told about this project asked the same thing: *why not a Sprinter?* We answered it in Chapter 2. Short version: a rig you can afford to break is a rig you'll actually take out.
What's next
Every new build update, trail report, and gear write-up gets added to the Journal in chronological order. No influencer polish. No sponsored gloss. Just what we did, what it cost, and what we learned.
Thanks for being here. Now go read Chapter 2.
